Hypermobility

  • Ever seen someone popping their joints and seeing their body parts be unusually more flexible than it is supposed to be?  
  • This is called Hypermobility. 
  • Joints that are more flexible than normal or that move in excess of a normal range of motion are considered Hypermobile.
  • 20% of the population in the world are Hypermobile. 
  • Compared to boys, Girls are more Hypermobile. Hypermobility tends to run in families, but its exact cause is unknown.
  • Genes that are involved in the production of collagen, a protein important for joint, tendon and ligament function, are believed to play a role.
  • Being double jointed has often increased the risk of asthma, Cardiovascular problems and bowel irritability
  • Soon after, Researchers concluded that Hypermobility was linked to mental conditions as well. 
  • Hypermobile people would be more prone to anxiety and increased flight or flight response.
